Nicole Roskos lives in Woodstock, NY. She began painting the forests of New Jersey at Drew University during the 90’s, while she was working for her Ph.D. in ecological theology. A doctor of philosophy, a published writer, and an environmental activist for over a decade, her passion for wilderness preservation informs her landscape paintings. Roskos articulates a particular engagement with the trees and forests of the Catskills and wider Northeast. Her impressionism portrays the complex interplay of light and shadow that illuminates the often sublime presence of Nature.

After moving to Woodstock, Roskos became more involved with portraiture, ranging from locals of the Woodstock area to a deeply felt and extensive eulogy to her deceased friend, Lauren Orton. She is expanding her work with figures in landscapes; reconciling people with nature; putting the human in its earthy context.
